Recap of 2019 & My New Year’s Resolutions

At the end of every year, I am publishing a blog post about the lessons I learned in that year and my New Year’s resolutions. A quote from last year’s post;

“Thank you for everything dear 2018, you’ve been a meaningful year for me, filled with lots of lessons. And it makes me happy to have still the chance to share all those lessons here on my blog. So, what am I expecting from 2019? It should teach me lessons, challenge me and shape my personality. I know that we are going to get through hard times also in 2019 but as long as we are good in health, we can handle anything, that’s all I know for now. I wish everyone a year filled with lots of travels and amazing memories.
*A small note to those who I’m gonna meet this year; please come with good karma.”

Before posting this article, I’ve first read my old articles about what I had gone through and what the years taught me. And how was 2019? If I had to summarize in 1-2 words, the perfect description would be ‘human relations’. I’ve been especially tested about relationships this year. The “life exams” I couldn’t pass about relationships came over and over again and made me relive the same mistakes. 2019 also made me realize some of my characteristics that I ignored or have not noticed yet…

Nothing is as it seems to be. We are convinced that we know everything very well – but most of the time it ain’t the fact. The movie, which plays behind the scenes, may have got a higher rating at IMDB, than the live performance on the stage for sure. However, most of the time or not at all, it takes a lot of time to see what’s behind the scenes – maybe it should be like this. I believe that everything has a reason, I think that all the positive or negative things we’re going through are trying to teach us something. The important thing about it is to evaluate the incidents consciously enough in order to learn the lesson, otherwise the course is repeating itself until we got it right. It has always been like this in my life. 2019 has made me got a question mark about everything I believe in, and has lead me to completely different point of views.

We think that we know people very well, but that isn’t always the point. What I learned this year; people are wearing more than one mask. And we only see those people with their most beautiful mask, because we just want to believe in them. We assume that everyone is like us and thinks like us. But this is not the case in real life. We should try to get to know people by evaluating concrete incidents or the person’s attitude towards us, and not by what we just want to see. And it feels also like we all have an expiration date. I mean, we rush and we consume everything really quickly. Love, respect, happiness, friendship, trust, loyalty – everything expires so quick… I am totally bored of this.

Animals are much better,
humans are crazy.

This was our first year with Maya. Deciding for a cat was one of the best decisions I made in late 2018. In 2019, Maya and I got to know each other well, we shared our eternal love. Indeed, the love of an animal is one of the most valuable things in the world. Just imagine, they can’t express themselves like us, but they can make us feel loved. Maya is a very special cat, she is a gift from Istanbul to me. When I feel sick, she tries to comfort me in any way. She misses me when I go out of town, and when I get back, she rolls around happily and jumps on me. She even kisses me. πŸ˜€ One thing I learned in 2019 was definitely the love of a pet. We understand each other, and that’s wonderful.

Traveling was again my favorite activity this year. Compared to previous years, I have not traveled abroad much this year, just a several times to Germany and recently to Rome. After traveling to Far Eastern countries such as Thailand, Bali, Malaysia and Singapore in 2018, this year has been quite calm for me. But I travelled around in Turkey and tried to get to know my own country. This year the place which fascinated me the most was definitely Cappadocia. I collected so many magical memories there. The hot air balloon tour has been a childhood dream of mine, I realized this year. Apart from that, we did an enjoyable horse tour while enjoying the magical view of the Fairy Chimneys.

But I’m going to post a detailed blog post about Cappadocia later on. πŸ™‚

In 2019, I learned to quit. It has been a year in which I removed all the things, people, feelings and thoughts from my life, which became actually ‘burdens’ on me for many years. I’ve lost my bond and I’ve become free. My fixed ideas swayed, a question mark appeared on things I believed in, and I could say “goodbye” to the things I thought I can never say goodbye to. At the same time, issues from the past came up which I could complete this year. Summing up, 2019 made a reset on my life. I am happy to be able to start the new year 2020 with a clear mind hoping for great things to come up.

And most important thing… I’ve learned that we’re inviting everything into our lives by just imagining and dreaming of. Desire, dream and believe in the things you want to come true. Everything is at the tip of your tongue and heart. Just believe, desire, and be patient. We also need to be attentive to the words we use to express ourselves. When I complain like ‘Why did this happen to me?’ I’m experiencing the same thing over and over again. Maybe the universe thinks that I probably did not understand the message of the incident and makes me repeat it over again until I got it right. Since I pushed my thoughts in a more positive direction and started to recognize the right message in every event, somehow everything went well. I think the energy of words are too strong!

A brief recap of 2019…

  • I’ve started with pilates and to dance ballet again.
  • I got my first tattoo.
  • I’ve become the brand representative of REVO Facial Aesthetics.
  • I’ve learned cooking, but I’m sure that I can improve it also in 2020. πŸ˜€
  • Watching soccer games of Besiktas in the stadium has been one of my favorite activities in 2019.
  • I’ve filed my sharp sides and changed a little more.
  • Besides knowing what I want in life, this year I learned what I don’t want more clearly.
  • I learned to easily get away from everything that doesn’t make me feel comfortable or makes me feel unbalanced. Nothing or nobody is indispensable to me, so negativity has no space in my life.

Contrary to the New Year’s Eve of 2018, where I set crazy goals for myself and made concrete plans for 2018, 2019 was obviously a year in which I wanted to trust in the flow. And I experienced; when I start the new year without listing my goals and resolutions, I cannot compile that year and it feels like I don’t have time to make concrete plans for that year. So I want to put myself goals again this year. I’m going to take a paper and a pen and list what’s in my mind and my soul. Even if it seems impossible right now, everything is a dream away from us, just list them. But I don’t think that it’s appropriate to share my entire list here, because there are also some personal resolutions for me. I’ll share with you the rough draft, more general and the small things. Maybe it’ll inspire you when writing down your own goals. πŸ™‚

  • At the beginning of 2020, something important is already planned which absolutely excites me. Unfortunately I can’t tell you what it is, I just wish that it’s going to go well and I totally believe in it. πŸ™‚
  • Traveling around the world! I want to go at least to 2 places I have not visited so far.
  • I’m speaking 4 languages and want to add one more: Italian.
  • I want to work on myself and be more balanced.
  • One of my goals each year is to drink at least 2 liters water per day.
  • Exercising regularly.
  • Cooking at home more often and eating healthy.
  • Only let positive things and positive people into my life.
  • Make space for new exciting things.
  • Post on my blog and Instagram on a regular basis.
  • Read at least one book per month. Unfortunately in the past months I could not concentrate on reading so much. That’s what I want to change in 2020.
  • No procrastinations anymore!

So what was the most important thing you learned in 2019, and what are your resolutions for 2020? I wish everyone a year full of health, happiness, love, abundance and blessings. I hope everything is going to be much better than we can ever imagine! Happy new year!
